This team was flawed, but the watered down Eastern Conference, did little to expose them during the season. I said this back then, and still stand by it, the Knicks should have kept David Lee.

Filmmaker/director Alan "Al Profit" Bradley

Filmmaker/director Alan "Al Profit" Bradley

Filmmakers Ron Chepesiuk and Alan "Al Profit" Bradley Uncover the Mystery of Crime Boss Frank Matthews in New Documentary Release, "Frank Matthews Story: The Rise and Disappearance of America's Biggest Kingpin"

Durham, North Carolina - If anyone can cover a story and uncover the truth when it comes to real life crime and bigger-than-life gangsters, award winning author/ filmmaker Ron Chepesiuk can. Having recently exposed the lies behind "The American Gangster/Frank Lucas" saga with the book and DVD "Sergeant Smack: The Legendary Lives and Times of Ike Atkinson, Kingpin, and His Band of Brothers" Chepesiuk is back on the scene and joining him is noted Detroit-based filmmaker/director Alan "Al Profit" Bradley. The beat this time - the greatest getaway story in gangster history, the mystery of drug kingpin,Frank Matthews.

In 1973, Frank Matthews, history's first African American drug kingpin, jumped bail in New York City with $15 to $20 million and a beautiful girlfriend. Nearly four decades later, the fate of Frank Matthews, the money and the girlfriend, Cheryl Brown, remain a complete mystery!

The trailer for the new DVD documentary, co-produced by Studio August and Strategic Media Books, "Frank Matthews Story: The Rise and Disappearance of America's Biggest Kingpin," garnered over 150,000 views in less than four hours on WorldStarHipHop.com, indicating a 'mob' of interest in this true life legend! "It's as if Matthews dropped off the face of the earth," explains Mike Pizzi, a retired U.S. Marshal who was involved with the hunt for Matthews, the fugitive, for several years.

"Frank Matthews Story: The Rise and Disappearance of America's Biggest Kingpin" features rare archival footage, interviews with Mike Pizzi, detectives, retired gangsters and other sources who have never spoken publicly about Matthews. The one hour and 25 minute documentary includes exclusive footage and rare photos of Matthews and his crew.

Chepesiuk and Bradley explore several intriguing issues, including how was Matthews able to operate for several years without being detected; what was his relationship with La Cosa Nostra; why did the CIA get involved in the Matthews' investigation; what happened to Cheryl Brown and why has the mystery of his disappearance been so difficult to solve?

Frank Matthews' crime empire rivaled the Italian Mafia. When he boldly built himself a mansion in Staten Island's most exclusive neighborhood, right across the street from mobsters Paul Castellano and Three Finger Brown, he found himself on the verge of a war with La Cosa Nostra. Matthews also battled militant Black Muslims for control of the streets in New Jersey and Philadelphia. Filmmaker/director Alan "Al Profit" Bradley

"Frank Matthews was a one-of-a-kind legend in the drug trade," Bradley explains. Bradley (http://www.alprofit.com) is the noted director of several documentaries about urban gangsters, including "Rollin'," "Motown Mafia" and "Murder City." "Matthews emerges as an almost mythical figure when it comes to true crime stories. Our documentary offers some fascinating insight behind this truly mysterious man."

"The $15 to $20 million dollars he disappeared with is roughly equivalent to $100 million today," adds Chepesiuk. "What happened to Frank Matthews? That's the most intriguing question in organized crime history," ponders Chepesiuk (http://www.ronchepesiuk.com), who has spent five years researching the Frank Matthew story. "Amazingly, despite one of the largest manhunts in US history, there is still no proof as to whether he is alive or dead." Author/filmmaker, Ron Chepesiuk

Dead or alive, Frank Matthews made a defiant mark in history. "Frank Matthews Story: The Rise and Disappearance of America's Biggest Kingpin" is available for DVD purchase and instant digital download athttp://www.frankmatthewsmovie.com as well as on Amazon.com and wherever DVD's are sold.

The documentary will be screened March 23, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. EST at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, North Carolina, and on April 11, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. EST at The Museum of the American Gangster in New York City. Both events are open to the public.

Angela Johnson

Published in Guest of the Vocal Booth Written by In The Vocal Booth

Special Guest: Angela Johnson

For 17 years she’s made it look easy: marriage, motherhood, music career, and managing the enviable feat of becoming one of the most consistently sought-after producers and songwriters in independent soul. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also a knockout. For 17 years, Angela Johnson has been the real-life Superwoman of Independent Music. One of the first Indie Queens of Soul to reign, Johnson has released six albums of guilty pleasures that have caused thousands of souls to sing and feet to move around the globe. Building on the momentum established from her first two critically-acclaimed projects with Cooly’s hot-box, Johnson has become an international sensation in the UK and Japan and credibly positioned herself as a bankable brand with companies seeking fresh and innovative artists-partners. After years of sharing only the smiling siren behind the keys, with her latest Purpose Music release, It’s Personal, Johnson is now ready to reveal the truth behind the image and finally share the intimate secret to her fan’s #1 question: How does she do it?

Johnson will be the first to tell you that at least half of the reason she’s able to do it is her solid Utica, New York upbringing. A musical child prodigy, Johnson was playing piano by age four and violin by nine. The eldest of four, Johnson was supported throughout her formative years by a loving family in her most evident passion. Johnson’s Baptist church family added another layer of encouragement, giving her those crucial first opportunities to rock an audience as a choir director, organist and eventual star performer. At her spiritual and musical training ground, Johnson refined the ear arresting rhythms of her heart and the voice that echoed the notes endlessly playing in her head. Multi-hyphenated personal icons like Patrice Rushen and Angela Winbush set a path for Johnson in sound and illuminated the possible for a blue-collar girl who knew a multi-faceted musical destiny awaited her.

Born for music, Johnson enrolled in the State University of New York at Purchase (SUNY) to further study violin. At SUNY, she met her future Cooly’s hot-box bandmates and songwriting partner, Christian Urich. Together the eclectic soul and acid jazz band landed a deal with Polygram Records that ended almost before it begun. A trifecta of dance hits (“We Don’t Have To Be Alone,” “What A Surprise,” and “Make Me Happy”) earned the band an international reputation for earnest, soulful grooves. In 2002, the group inked a new deal with Virgin Records, and released their critically acclaimed debut album, Take It. While honing her production and songwriting chops on the Cooly’s Hot Box debut album, Johnson decided it was time to express the woman she is alone and simultaneously recorded her solo debut, They Don’t Know (Purpose). Immediately distinguishing her sound from Cooly’s, Johnson’s solo debut, and its radio hit “Ordinary Things” loudly announced exactly what the industry should know: that Angela Johnson was here to stay. The industry listened. Songs from They Don’t Know and its intimate follow-up, Got To Let It Go (Purpose), were licensed by HBO’s The Wire, UPN’s Kevin Hill, FX’s The Shield, and the WB’s Roswell. As a featured spokesperson Angela was also appearing in Japanese car commercials for Nissan. In 2004 Angela briefly reunited with Cooly’s hot-box to record their sophomore album, Don’t Be Afraid-Get On (Purpose). In early 2005 the band was featured in a national TV advertising campaign for SBCglobal.net (AT&T/Cingular). That same year Johnson departed the band who’d later become Tortured Soul. As a front woman for Cooly’s hot-box, Johnson had toured the world, now it was time to conquer it as an artistic force in her own right.

More than a pretty face, Johnson began penning hits for artists like Conya Doss (“Emotions”), Seek (“Journey Into Day”), Laurnea (“No Shame”), Monét (“Wanna Kiss You”), Reel People (“Can’t Stop”), and Japanese R&B superstar Double, for whom Johnson landed a 2001 top ten, gold selling hit, “Angel.” Her achievements as a producer and songwriter earned her the respect of artists’ artists like Maysa, Frank McComb, Eric Roberson, Rahsaan Patterson, Gordon Chambers, Marlon Saunders, and Claude McKnight, among others. All of whom graciously performed on Johnson’s last project, the single producer compilation, A Woman’s Touch, yielding the radio hit “Let Me Know (featuring Eric Roberson)” and three Soul Tracks Readers’ Choice Award nominations, including “Album of the Year.” On stages from Kyoto to Briton, Johnson’s success, powerful performances, and Madison Avenue appeal helped to cultivate the alluring image of the dynamic Superwoman who was handling life with sass and aplomb, but there was always much more to Johnson’s woman next door persona than met the eye. In addition to her strong family upbringing, the secret weapon that has allowed Johnson to keep so many balls afloat over the last 17 years is her marriage to her manager and Purpose Music co-founder Russell Johnson. The dynamic duo has demonstrated the anti-thesis of every stereotype about Black love, Black family, and the legendary horror stories surrounding female artists with managing husbands. Angela’s comic sensibilities and creative chaos are complemented by Russell’s straight man stability and orderly business savvy. The Johnson’s yin and yang work because there are no leaders, only partners in business and in love. Together raising a daughter, who’s getting her own global education, the Johnson’s take co-parenting as seriously on tour as they do in their Newark, New Jersey home. With her newest project It’s Personal, it was important to Johnson to share her family and marriage experiences on songs like “Days,” “For You” and “Only One,” once and for all smashing the lone woman persona to share all of Angela Johnson with her fans.

After delivering nearly two decades of honest music, Angela Johnson has nothing left to prove. A newly liberated Johnson returns ready to party. Culling the funky sounds of that twilight period between the end of disco and the height of the funk era, Johnson’s production on It’s Personal rediscovers the rhythmic grooves, propulsive basslines, and memorable chords that once poured from live instruments instead of technology. Club bangers like the lead single “Better” and “Hurts Like Hell” fuses warm harmonies and infectious hooks with personal lyrics that tell Angie’s uncompromising truths. Throughout, Johnson gifts her listeners with that rare music her fans can both step to and be moved by, the kind once commonplace “On The Radio.”

With lyrical revelations like “Be Myself” and “Get Myself Together,” not since Got To Let It Go’s “Got To Let It Go,” Johnson’s personal testimony about surviving her mother’s homegoing, has Johnson bared so much of her soul in song. Even on the Eric Roberson’s penned “The Indie In Me,” the only lyric not written by Johnson, Roberson’s take on the joys and trials of life on the road as an artist resonate with Johnson’s story. As does the lifeblood of her marital love on the single, “All In Me,” with up and coming crooner, Darien, serving as a stand-in for Russell on a sultry duet that’s already steaming up the airwaves.

With It’s Personal, Angela tears down the final wall between her perfected image for the stage and the real-life woman who works hard and sometimes stumbles in her effort to keep it sexy for her husband, be a shining example for her daughter, maintain the esteem of her industry, and deliver the kind of music and performances that contributes something real in the lives of her fans. No more illusion, just Angie.

ROBIN S

Published in Guest of the Vocal Booth Written by In The Vocal Booth
ROBIN S

Robin S, born and raised in Queens, New York, began singing at the age of five in a church choir. Blessed with perfect pitch and a genuine talent to entertain, she took up vocal training at the age of eight under the direction of the legendary Brook Alexander. Alexander, who also instructed Melba Moore, he made learning easy. His style taught me how to create different sounds by using my facial expressions and tones. It enabled me to obtain the skills to become a performer.

At the age of fifteen, Robin went to join both jazz and cover bands in the New York metropolitan area, performing at dinner clubs, lounges, and other venues. During her tenure as a member of the band Top Shelf, she met the owners of Homeboy Recording Studios. They immediately realized that they found the perfect accent to their music and began laying demo tracks for Robin's vocals.

"Show Me Love", Robin's first gold single, introduced her as one of the premier vocalists of the early 1990. Her first release was in 1990 under Robin Stone (that's what the "S" stands for). The chart-topping single, punctuated with energetic remixes from Stonebridge Productions of Sweden, originally gained popularity in Europe on Champion Records only in 1993. The success of the record caught the eyes of executives at Big Beat Records and Robin S was on her way to fulfilling her dreams.

Robin's debut album on Big Beat/Atlantic Records, "Show Me Love" immediately broadened her fan base. The diverse sounds of the record, which changes between beautiful lush ballads like "What I Do Best", Who's Goina’ Raise The Child", and bold toe-tapping rhythms, were created by a variety of producers, including Junior Vasquez, Nick Martinelli, and David Morales.

"Love For Love", another chart-topping track from Robin's debut is a fiercely hypnotic track filled with syncopated beats, added her to the elite list of dance diva. I don't mind being called a diva one bit. "There are some great divas in the world like Aretha Franklin,

Patti Labelle, Phyllis Hyman and Nancy Wilson". "If I am going to be considered a diva like they are, then I am embracing the title,” says Robin!

And Robin's efforts paid off. In 1993, Robin was named BEST DANCE ARTIST at the Billboard Awards and Show Me Love received 2 awards for BEST DANCE SINGLE and BEST DANCE ARTIST. Robin also earned 2 awards at the industry Annual Winter Dance Music Conference for BEST DANCE ARTIST SOLO and BEST NEW DANCE SINGLE.

Robin's live performances on the stages of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, just to name a few and abroad continues to work its magic and show off Robin's diversity. She finds no trouble engaging her audience. "When I do a show, I want people to feel as if they are an intricate part of my performances." I often bring individuals on stage to dance with me and “I don't choose the ones who are already clapping and mouthing the lyrics, they are already happy and convinced! I pick the people who are silent, ones that are expressionless; they are the people I'm trying to reach."

Robin's performances have been seen and heard by fans all over the world. having performed in Holland, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, The Ivory Coast, Finland, Amsterdam, Portugal, France, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, and Turkey, and the list goes on. In addition to her many club shows in the United States, Robin has also appeared on numerous television programs in such as: The Monique Show May 2011, Showtime at the Apollo, "Coming Home",  Thanksgiving Special Hosted by Nancy Wilson, The Robert Townsend Show, Americas Most Funniest Home Videos, The Maury Povich Show, The Jenny Jones Show, The Ricki Lake Show, The Arsenio Hall Show (singing with the band on 2 occasions). The Disney Channel, VH1's White Nights AIDS Special, MTV U.S. and Canada, MTV's Lip Service, BET (singing and an interview with Donnie Simpson) and many others. Her soundtrack contributions such as "SPACE JAMS",(she wrote and sang the song "Givin you all that I've got"), "BAPS" (she co-wrote and sang "I can't wait" with Michael O'Hara and "Love is shining down on me" with Tony Moran and Nikki Richards), "DR. DOLITTLE", (she sang the song "Dance" feat. Mary Mary written and produced by Warryn Campbell and Mary Mary), "KNOCK OUT" (she sang and co-wrote with Michael O'Hara the song "At My Best"), "WELCOME TO WHOOP WHOOP" (she sang "Once in a Lifetime Love" produced by David Morales)

In the years since turning worldwide dance floors and pop radio airwaves upside down with the massive smash "Show Me Love," Robin has traveled an enlightening journey toward heightened self-awareness and creative maturity. After working on her song writing for several years, she began recruiting a sterling array of producers and tunesmiths that includes Bryce Wilson, Tony Moran, Wayne Cohen and Shepard Solomon, King Britt and John Wicks, Eric "E-Smoove" Miller, Darrin Whittington, and Steve Dubin who guided Robin on her hotly anticipated second album, From Now On (Big Beat/Atlantic, 1997).

"I feel as if I'm soaring on these songs," the singer says with pride. She is inspired to take flight by a deftly mined musical environment that transcends the traditional boundaries of dance music. "From Now On", succeeds in delivering the credible grooves of underground club culture, while also showcasing fine live musicians, who bring soulful warmth to every one of the album's songs. "There is no match for the experience of singing with a band. It's nourishment to the soul for every singer." After all, you can't feel the funk with a computer-generated guitar."

It was venerable songwriter Michael O'Hara --- acclaimed for his highly successful collaborations with Anita Baker, among others --- who first helped Robin find the confidence to begin sharing her insightful words and infectious melodies. "He was the first writer to take me seriously," she says. "He took me under his wing and shared his magic with me." The two crafted "Shine On Me," a storming house music anthem that is the centerpiece composition of the album. "That was the first song I recorded for the new album and it was about as painful as giving birth, because it was mine" but it has been just as joyous Robin says with a laugh."  Michael and I have written so many songs together since then. He brings out the best in me." As her second song "AT My Best" to shape and form. "This song was my letter to GOD". If you listened very closely to the lyrics, you'll hear her story. The latest song is “Shake It” was released September 2011 a collaboration with a Hip Hop Artist named CtK, promotes a lifestyle of exercising a better way to health and, no matter how old you are you can “Shake It”.

The world's first taste of From Now On was via the premiere single, a sassy rendition of Alton McClain & Destiny's famed 1980 chestnut "It Must Be Love." The track was produced by Groove Theory's Bryce Wilson, who earned platinum marks at the helm of the Toni Braxton smash "Your Love Is Making Me High." Robin brilliantly approaches "It Must Be Love," which places her in an arrangement featuring a tight funk groove and an elaborate orchestra.  "This song is beautiful in that it captures the spirit of an era that I love. I gave myself to that energy and that allowed me to really dig into the song, have a lot of fun with it, and made it my own" the singer says.

After her second album, a single, entitled "Midnight" was released on a 12". There were so many songs that the world has never reviewed like her remakes of "You know how to love me" and "All I do". However, her success is still amazing, as she in 2004 has made her European Tour, soon after the re-release of her first album, and also took part on the play When a Man Cries, by JD Lawrence. Now Robin S has been performing on many Shows and 90's Parties worldwide. Robin can be best quoted saying "I've grown so much, emotionally and spiritually and I am very clear on my vision.  Wisdom and maturity is my experience so the BEST IS YET TO COME"!

“For years, I did not have a Label home, so I took that disadvantage and turned it into MY ADVANTAGE”! “Like most artist, I completed a studio at home so that I could do my own thing whenever I wanted to. I have since been signed to Selekted Music in Amsterdam, I am currently starting my own label, “slow and steady wins the race, always”! Now, looking toward the future is really important to the Atlanta-based singer these days, because she’s got a lot of irons in the fire!  When Robin S. is not touring within the States and abroad, with the New Release of “Show Me Love 2009”, she is found in her studio producing a Gospel album for her new artists or writing songs to tracks from the likes of known DJ’s Todd Terry and DJ, Singer/Songwriter Roland Clarke, Tristian Casara (Be Thankful), or collaborating with other know artists like Melanie Daniels and “Inaya Day” or simply doing her own tracks with the assistance of a young aspiring producer by the name of “Da Chase”.  Her Latest project “SHAKE IT” is one of her latest collaborations with CtK and Corey Gibbons.  Robin S, states “this song is guaranteed to be a massive movement on the dance floors”. “With this song, you have a mixture of all the spices you like”!    “We are human beings first, when the lights are off and the stage is down, we have our own personal lives”. “It’s important that I stay grounded with all things”.

Although it may seem to some that she is a one hit wonder, or totally out of the scene, her response to that is “I am like a stealth jet flying under the radar, you never know which way I am coming from or what I’m doing”.  “But be sure of this, I am doing some really good things”!  Currently, she has a weekly podcast spot with “Gods DJ Pat Allen” out of California, completing her new album project, writing her Poetry Book and getting ready to work with renowned play writer JD Lawrence. JD Lawrence, known as the "King of Dramedy", is an American playwright, actor, comedian, author, director and producer of film, television and stage plays. Lawrence, the multi-hyphenate plays as many as seven (7) characters in a single production. Known for his hit stage plays such as, “The Clean Up Woman, Me & Mrs. Jones, I’ll Always Love My Mama and When a Man Cries which is one of the first plays Robin S had an acting role in.  JD has been dubbed The Man of Many Faces by EBONY Magazine.  Robin S. has a desire to act.  “The skill is there and I certainly have the will”.  I know that day will come, and when it does I will once again say, “Thank you GOD, and give it all that I’ve got”!

Controversial Film "Ghetto Physics" is Poised to OCCUPY the Movement with DVD and Book Release "Ghetto Physics" the Movie for the Movement Offers Social Commentary from Dr. Cornel West, Ice T, KRS-One, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, Pimp Fillmore Slim and more

Los Angeles - When filmmakers E. Raymond Brown and Williams Arntz first released the independent movie "Ghetto Physics" in late 2010, they knew the film was an early battle cry, a wakeup call to America and beyond.  The cutting edge hybrid documentary explored the dynamics of the 'powers that be' in laymen terms that the 'man on the street' could easily relate to.  Inflation, foreclosure, unemployment, healthcare issues, pollution, crime, recession and depression:  one percent was benefiting - pimping; and somebody, the other 99 percent, were being played for the ho!

Cut chase to the present, and the DVD release of "Ghetto Physics," accompanied by the manual, "GhettoPhysics: Redefining the Game" finds itself smack dab in the middle of an OCCUPY movement which could have easily been a scene in the original film!

Explosive, controversial, insightful and comedic, "Ghetto Physics" is the movie of the movement.  It leaps from the screen with input from personalities and celebrities that include author, social activist and Princeton professor Dr. Cornel West; MC and producerKRS-One; rapper/actor Ice T; economist, author and social activist John Perkins; Emmy Award-winning television producer and social activist Norman Lear; former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney; and Brother Ishmael Tetteh, Founder and Spiritual Director of the Etherean Mission in Ghana, West Africa, a trans-denominational metaphysical organization.  A colorful contingent of 'real life' pimps also flavor the cast including street legends "The West Coast Godfather of the Game" Fillmore Slim, Hook da Crook, Mac Breed and Lo Da Show.

"Ghetto Physics" a term which merges street science with the dynamics of metaphysics, deconstructs the nature, structure and "politricks" of power as they are played out in every corner of our society, and in every society around the world. According to Arntz, the brain behind box office success "What the BLEEP Do We Know!?," "We see these power dynamics expressing in government, in business, in the military, in academia ... in our families ... everywhere.  It's a nonpartisan political film that exposes the root of all of the world's dysfunctions - an imbalance in the dynamics of power."

Expresses Brown, a genuine product of the hip hop generation, who incorporates elements of shamanism, quantum theory, and archetypal psychology into his approach, "The evolving Occupy Movement is an eloquent expression of what I have been identifying for years now. The people running the show (a.k.a. the Pimps) and the people putting up with it (a.k.a. the Ho's) have been doing a lousy job taking care of the planet, the environment and each other. It's time to say 'Game Over' and time to start a new one.  It is not about right and wrong, good guys vs. bad guys. It is about awareness of 'the game' and letting people know it is up to them to choose the role they play in every situation. 'Ghetto Physics' exposes the powers that be and refuses to let those in control rule our lives anymore."

"Ghetto Physics" is available for purchase now on DVD at Amazon.com and wherever movies are sold online. The DVD includes Spanish subtitles and a music video from E. Raymond's group, 'Da Physics. The book "GhettoPhysics: Redefining the Game," also available via Kindle on Amazon.com, is a resource rife with insight, methodology and a call to action for survival and success as a 99 percenter in society.

Participants at the various OCCUPY centers around the country are also eligible for a free DVD per a special campaign at www.GhettoPhysics.com. The film will be available for online screening at GhettoPhysics.com on October 18 and via download on iTunes and Amazon.com at a later date.

From the corner office to the street corner, the game is the same, notes ghettophysicians E. Raymond Brown and William Arntz. Peep the dynamics now by viewing the trailer at www.GhettoPhysics.com and help Occupy the movement for change!

Also, view Dr. Cornel West, who was recently arrested at OCCUPY Wall Street, in "Ghetto Physics":

THE WORLD OF DEATH’S DOOR

The first time Marcus died, he thought his life was destroyed. The second time, he discovered what life really is.

Marcus and his family eat a celebratory dinner in recognition of his recent engagement. After dinner, Marcus suddenly collapses and flatlines in front of his brother. His father, an ex-fire chief, performs CPR though he feels it is a lost cause. Mysteriously Marcus is revived quickly, but doctors have no answers for the family as to why he collapsed. Marcus seems to know more than he lets on.

The next week, Marcus is at the park having a romantic day with fiancé Jessica and he collapses again. He comes around without CPR, and Jessica insists that he see a specialist. Marcus asserts that doctors won't help. Later Marcus confides in his brother that he knows he will keep dying and there is no medical reason for it. He makes drastic changes in his life that affect those closest to him to accommodate his new condition.

Marcus yearns to find someone who understands what he's going through. He comes to believe that he can't be the only one with this condition. Feeling isolated and confused, at the conclusion of the series Marcus chooses how he will embark on this new life.

Singer/Songwriter, Debra Manso

Singer/Songwriter, Debra Manso

Debra Manso is a singer/songwriter from Long Island, her musically style is a cross of Blues, Rock and Jazz with a classic look that reminds you of the late Billie Holiday and a modern day sopfistcated Tina Turner.Debra Manso's vocal style is strongly inspired by Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin.  Debra grow up on long Island in a family of 8 in a really rough neighborhood with some tough financial times but her father work tirelessly to make sure the family was provided for.  Debra's teenage years were difficult and filled with rebellious behavior that was often tempered by her love for music. "I was a rebel without a cause and paid dearly for some bad choice but the one thing that remained consistent was my love for music".
After a few years of working with R&B producers that wanted her to sound like Beyonce Debra finally decided enough was enough and walked away from music for 3 years so that she could rediscover her passion. Now she is back with a very clear focus on what she wants to do musically.  Debra says "I needed to go back to the root what made me feel good.  So I started working on developing my voice and my sound and I am really excited about where I am now".  "There is nothing pre-fabricated about me I'm just being me and I love it! and I want my music to be a reflection of that".Debra was strongly influenced by her dad's eclectic taste in music.  "My dad was a big Rock and Roll person who loved the Mama and Papas, the Rolling Stone, and Jimi Hendrix.  I feel so many emotions in my life there are times when I want to be sexy and elegant and there are times I love to be crazy and just rock out". "My love for blues came from living a very hard life early on". Debra's musically style is really the grittiness of Blues, the rawness of Rock and the elegance of Jazz "and that is what I want to share with people".  "Most importantly I want to feel free to express myself in my music". Debra is currently in the studio working on her latest EP due to be released the spring of 2012! Debra Manso  "music is my life and when you want something bad enough you go for it and don't let anything or anyone kill your dream"

Artist: Wilma Ann

Artist: Wilma Ann

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands native Wilma Ann crossed crystal blue waters to bless us with her dynamic vocal presence. Her voice is touched with intimate soul, softened by jazzy resonance and glorified with the cunning to flow smoothly through tight gospel-tinged riffs. Her music is at once romantic soul, funky, with an occasional hip-hop edge.
