Tonight's Live In The Vocal Booth CD Review: Kindred The Family Soul|Love Has No Recession. Tonights Topic:Is There A Thin Line Between Cheap & Frugal?

Tonight's LIVE In The Vocal Booth Show we rate and review: Kindred The Family Soul new CD release "Love Has No Recession"

Here is our rating system:

5 Stars: It's blazing hot – on fire
4 Stars: It's a hot song – pump it up
3 Stars: It's alright-good song
2 Stars: Thanks for the album cut-what's next
1 Stars: I won't tell nobody about that if you don't…lets keep that a secret

Kindred the Family Soul, also referred to as Kindred, are an American R&B, soul, and neo soul duo consisting of the married couple of Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon. Signed to Hidden Beach Recordings, Kindred emerged from the Philadelphia neo soul movement that also includes Jill Scott, who discovered them while the couple was performing at the Black Lily Film & Music Festival.

After two years of work on the CD, Hidden Beach issued their debut album Surrender to Love in February 2003, which included, among others, the songs "Stars" and "Far Away". Their follow-up album was 2005's In This Life Together—its title being a reference to Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee's 1998 book With Ossie & Ruby: In This Life Together—, spawning the single "Where Would I Be (The Question)".

The duo were nominated for a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Group Band or Duo for Surrender to Love in 2004 and a BET Award for the BET J Cool Like That Award in 2006. The group's third LP, The Arrival, was released on October 21, 2008. Love Has No Recession is the fourth studio album by R&B duet.

Tonight's Topic: Is there a thin line between being cheap and being frugal?

By definition to be cheap means you're only willing to pay a low price or small cost for something. By definition to be frugal means you're economical in use or expenditure, prudently saving or sparing and not wasteful. But what happens when someone expects you to pay for something and you say, "I can't afford it." What do they hear? Is it that you're cheap and don't want to spend the money? Is it that you're frugal and see that as a waste of money? Or is it that you really just don't have the money? Is there a thin line between being cheap and being frugal?

Special Guests: Latonya Blige and Carmen Brown

Latonya Blige:

Latonya Blige, featured artist off the Rise Up Against Domestic Violence Through Music Compilation, calling in to discuss her involvement with the project.

BIO:

started in the music business as a background singer and writer for Mary, then I began assisting her with her everyday needs and learning from her managers just watching, listening, and at times suggesting things. Then my sister asked me to come aboard & co-manage with her managers, who were on board at that time. That part of the music world was very different from singing and writing songs.

I did and I am still learning a lot in this music business. I want to let everyone know how my sister opened up doors for her family; and I really thank her for changing our lives. Now I am on the side of the business where I will get to see, feel and do what I always love doing. I will be writing & singing my own songs and someone else will be handling most of my business. The singing part of the business is a lot of work and dedication. I am a person who enjoy listening to all kinds of music and I will like to work and write with a lot of different writers. I have written and co- produced songs on a couple of albums for Mary. I have also written & co- written songs for Faith Evans and Mariah Carey’s former female group, “Allure” I also written for producer “Chucky Thompson” artist “Frankie”.

I don’t feel this gift will ever leave me. It is in my heart & spirit. Now is the time for me to share it with the world.

Carmen Brown:

Carmen Brown demonstrates her firm commitment to Christ and spreading the gospel through her deeply soulful songs. Her vocals are strong yet beautiful and smooth mixed with an enthralling blend of R&B/ hip hop rhythms and inspiring lyrics.  Her music resonates across all age groups, especially today’s youth, offering them a route to Christ.

A native of Plainfield, N.J., she began singing in churches at a very early age. By the age of 16, Carmen entered and won several state competitions and was named vocalist of the year in “Who’s Who in Music”.  This gave wings to her dreams and allowed her to embark on several European tours with various gospel and non-gospel groups and productions.

Carmen is an accomplished songwriter/performer and the consummate business artist. She was the writer and featured vocalist on the triple platinum recording artist Adeva’s “Musical Freedom” released on Crysalis/Capital Records. Two of her Atlantic dance singles (released under the name Simphonia) made Billboard’s top ten charts.  She graced the dance floors in the U.S. and abroad with the underground dance tune “Can’t get over your love” released on Reprise Records. She also co-wrote and performed on the song “Cutie” with her R&B/ Hip Hop singing group Raw Stilo released on A&M / DV8 records.  The video had excellent rotation on Black Entertainment Television (B.E.T.) and the single reached the top 20 in Billboard magazine. In addition, she also has opened for or worked with various artist/producers including: Walter Hawkins, Vicki Winans, Usher, Faith Evans, Joe, Will Downing, Nas, The Wu-Tang Clan, Teddy Riley, Rick James, Aaron Neville, Tom Jones, and Bruce Springstein. To name only a few.

Although she had much success in R&B and dance, Carmen felt the Holy Spirit leading her in a different direction and she answered the Lord’s call to share his message with all who will receive it. Carmen spreads love, hope, encouragement and most of all God’s word through her music ministry.  Her music is a beacon of light in today’s tough times - listen and enjoy.
