Special Guest: The Viosocalist Brooke Alford
A native of Aberdeen, NC and raised in Marietta, GA, Brooke “Viosocalist” Alford is a contemporary national performing and recording Artist of the Violin. Brooke plays in styles including, but not limited to Contemporary Jazz, Gospel, Pop, and R&B. She has opened for national and international recording artists such as Najee (Nah-G), Will Downing, Paul Taylor, Eric Darius, and Rick Braun, and has shared the stage with James Ingram, Kenneth Edmonds (better known as “Babyface”) and Alex Bugnon (Boon-yun). Brooke has also been featured on Trinity Broadcasting Network’s (TBN) “Praise the Lord” program with Gospel Artist Rodney Dean Boyden (Boy-den), WATC Channel 57’s “Atlanta Live” Gospel and Inspirational television program, and on Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s new television channel, ASPiRE, on the Comcast network with a circulating “Viosocalist” commercial.
Typically, one would refer to an individual who plays the violin as a Violinist; however, Brooke likes to refer to herself as an Artist of the Violin. She uses the name, “Viosocalist” [Pronounced: VIO (as in “Violin”)-SOUL-KA-LIST], which means a violin player who soulfully sings through the violin, to describe her playing. Brooke’s desire is to expose her audiences to her music in a "new light", aside from the classical orchestral setting and image, stretch their imagination past that which is commonly experienced with the instrument, and show that the violin truly has no limits to the music in which it can be seen and/or heard.
Surrounded by creativity from birth, Brooke’s Mother, Dell Alford (who is a music educator and piano instructor), and her Father, Dr. Vernon Alford (who is an educator, author, and visual artist), nurtured her fascination with music and the arts from an early age. Brooke began formally dancing at the age of three, studying the piano at the age of five, and then began studying the violin with Violinist, Heather Ritchie just a few years later. Because the unique timbre and tone of the violin were so captivating, Brooke knew that this was the instrument for her. In high school, the violin became her primary focus. She then began studying privately with Atlanta Symphony Violinist, Jay Christy, to advance her playing to the collegiate level of study.
