Should Juvenile Offenders Be Tried As Adults For Crimes?|Special Guest: Attorney Steven E. Savage

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A JUVENILE AND ADULT CASE

Madison Jade Spearman was born September 24, 2010 and she departed this life August 15, 2011 at 11 months old.  Madison died from injuries she sustained at the hands of a 15 year old male that beat her because he grew tired of her crying. The young man that murdered Madison is about to be sentenced to 4 years in prison for Aggravated Man Slaughter.  Four years for taking the life of this baby. Madison’s family fights for a just sentence  that fits the crime.

This story raises many questions about trying juveniles as adults when they commit a serious crime.  The Live in the Vocal Booth team looks at Punishment vs Rehabilitation and when should we seek stiffer penalties for Juveniles. Join us “Live in the Vocal Booth” as we discuss this very serious issue.  Call in 646-233-1302 or Jump in chat because at bks1radio.com your voice matters.

Special Guest: Attorney Steven E. Savage

Steven E. Savage is a Newark, NJ-based criminal defense attorney who specializes in serious criminal cases in New York and New Jersey state and federal courts. A graduate of Cornell Law School and Columbia University Graduate School of Business, Mr. Savage remains committed to the community at-large by performing significant pro bono services and volunteer work, and serving as counsel to Occupy Newark. Even on nights and weekends, he writes and publishes legal articles and answers legal questions for those who log onto www.avvo.com.

When his firm, The Law Offices of Steven E. Savage, represents a criminal defendant whether of color or otherwise, he and his colleagues always strive to offer sensitive counsel with an eye toward ensuring that Justice truly is blind. He says, “Juvenile Justice is particularly important in this regard. Because the law tends to punish juveniles of color significantly more brutally than other minors, someone has to fight to preserve the lives of these often misguided souls.”
