Allure

Published in The Hosts of The Grown, Sexy Situation Written by Best Kept Secrets
Allure

Allure began when Alia Davis, Lalisha McLean and Akissa Mendez were studying at the LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. The girls wanted to expand their musical experience by forming a group and recruited Linni Belcher, Davis' friend to join. The girls got their first drive for a music career after winning a talent show together, singing a song written by one of their friends.

The girls then met Poke of the Trackmasters production team, who gave them an audition. He was impressed and in 1996, signed the girls to Trackmasters and gave them their name, Allure. It was through his help that the girls were able to become the first group signed to Mariah Carey's Crave Records under the name of Allure.

The group's self-titled debut album was released in 1997 and managed to go gold. The album's first single, 'Head Over Heels' featuring Nas had a fair showing, reaching #17 on the R&B charts. The group had their biggest hit with the album's second single and cover of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam’s track, 'All Cried Out' which reached #4 on the Hot 100 and went gold. The album’s third single was ‘Last Chance.’

Crave Records folded in 1998 and the girls were signed in 2000 by MCA Records. They released Sunny Days in 2001 to little promotion. The album failed to make a significant impact and Linnie Belcher left the group. Despite the album’s limited success, the single ‘Enjoy Yourself’ reached #50 on the R&B charts. The album’s second single, ‘Kool Wit Me’ did not chart. The girls then were signed by Ron Artest's label, Truwarier Records.

The new lineup released Chapter III in 2004. The album wasn't a large hit, as expected from an independent album. It did receive some promotion though through Ron Artest's suspension from the NBA. It featured two singles, ‘Uh Oh’ featuring Elephant Man, and ‘I Think I’m In Love’ with Joe Budden.

Storm Norm

Norman Bradley A.K.A. “Storm Norm” born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, the home of famed artist that range from Parliament Funkadelics and to the hot female group “Total”. Norm graduated from Plainfield High School where he was known as “DJ. Norm Ski” .

He rocked high school parties as DJ Norm Ski at some of The Tri States hottest clubs. His passion for music didn’t stop at just dee-jaying, he also formed a rap group called Fresh Finesse and released their first single titled “ You Ain’t Saying Nothin” on Valley/Trumpet/Atlantic records. The single did well in the US.and was 11 on London’s top DJ./Producer Tim Westwood’s top 40 pick hit list. He then went on to study recording engineering and the business of music at the prestigious Arts Institute of Atlanta, GA.

While pursuing his education he decided to go back to the Tri-State area to start his own music production company and studio, which led to the transformation from dee-jay to producer/songwriter. The first act he discovered, produced and developed was a female R&B/Hip-Hop group called “Total Opposites” which consisted of three local New Jersey girls Kima, Keisha, and Pam, they later went on to become the bad girls of Bad Boy Records-“Total”.

Since then he has worked in the presence of an array of artist and celebs such as Whitney, Bobby Brown, Nice and Smooth, M.O.P.,NBA legend Earl the Pearl just to name a few. Storm along with his long time friends formed a company called “Best Kept Secrets Entertainment” which is an entertainment media company which  also consist of BKS1 Radio network as well.

One of Storm Norm’s biggest career highlights was producing and co-writing for the tribute song “Nothing But The Truth for the Sojourner Truth statue tribute at the US Capitol with Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton & Nancy Pelosi in which he worked with artist Dorinda Clark and Yolonda Adams. Storm Norm is now involved in the film making industry and well on his way to becoming a force to be reckoned with in this jungle we call the entertainment industry. Watch out! “the STORM is coming.”
