Ten Ways To Keep Your Child On Track
Saturday, 07 May 2011 16:39In today’s world Mothers have to compete against a culture over run with sex, drugs, violence. A culture of instant gratification that glorifies “I Want It Right Now” but I don’t want to have to work for it. Images from video games, music videos, movies with “PG” ratings that would have garnered an “R” when we were their age, animated TV Shows said to be for mature audiences but yet are still marketed to children and this new age of user created videos all over the free world wide web leave are bombard our children with visual messages that are high on glamorized wow factors all-while extremely low on morals and consequence.
If filtering all of the negative imagery coming from the media wasn’t enough to keep a Mother busy, the allure of the streets is ever present; peer pressure and the attraction of gangs are constantly competing to have greater influence in our children’s lives.
Sometimes the challenges seem so great, as a mother what can you do to maintain your influence in your child life.
What if your child does take the wrong path, as a Mother what are the specific things you can do to block that dead end road they heading?
Plan B: Visit the Sperm Bank???
Wednesday, 29 June 2011 10:53No Mr. Right in sight? Your Plan B might involve a visit to the Sperm Bank. But are you being selfish?
You are career woman who has devoted much of your life to fulfilling your dreams in your career and moving up the corporate ladder with fierceness. You feel that you are at your peak, but there is one thing missing. Well, make that two. You want a child, but you are not in a stable or long-term relationship. What do you do? Continue to seek out that Prince Charming and hope to one day have a family before your eggs vanish? Or skip the middle man, literally, and get yourself a sperm donor?
Believe it or not, there are women who choose to go in the direction of a sperm donor. They have given up on the idea of having a husband so they move on to a component that they can control. That is having the child. The question is whether or not this avenue is a selfish one, as the child will not have a Father figure?
It's Over But We Still Have Children Together!
Friday, 09 March 2012 17:55One of the most challenging parts of any divorce, separation or break-up from a long-term relationship is getting along with your ex. In some cases, after you´ve divided up your possessions and worked out other financial and practical matters, you can wipe the slate clean and never look back.
If children are involved, though, this is not usually an option. You have to learn how to get along, be adults, and let go of your resentments -- not only for your own well-being but for the sake of your children. Now, if you´re thinking your kids can´t tell that you´re harboring feelings of resentment, anger or betrayal toward your ex because you mask it so well on the surface, think again. Children respond to who you are and how you feel more than how you pretend to be.
In time, and as you begin to release naturally, your feelings of resentment against your spouse will melt away. While this will make getting along with your ex much easier on you, the most important thing is the impact it will have on your children. They will definitely appreciate your openness to your ex, and in turn will develop a deeper, more open relationship with you.
If anyone you know is currently going through a divorce or break up and they have children, do pass the show info along to them so that they, too, can benefit from this show topic as well.

Live In The Vocal Booth Artist Review| Tank - This Is How I Feel | World Premier: The Tatum Talks| Special Guest: Comedian G.L. Douglas
Sunday, 27 May 2012 16:24Tonight on Bks1 Radio we have a special show for you. First we review Tank's latest release This Is How I Feel. Then following the Tank Review we bring you the Premier episode of Tatum Talks, Bks1 Radio's newest show added to the line up.
Artist Review: Tank
Tank delivers his 5th studio release with This Is How I Feel, lets see if he can continue to bring the soulful sounds that he is known. Here is an excerpt about Tank from (www.therealtank.com):
Tank is one o
f the most recognizable names in modern R&B, known for vivid storytelling and sensual love songs. He’s an icon in the making, with four albums and eight Grammy nominations under his belt. He’s also a singer who carries the torch of masters like Marvin Gaye and Al Green, while redefining R&B for a new decade. For singer/songwriter/producer Tank—about to release his Atlantic Records debut Now or Never, his first album in three years, and the one he describes as his most confident yet—the secret is simple. He remains true to who he is, as a man and an artist.
“My music is the real me,” says Tank. “I’ll either live by that or I’ll die by that in this business, but I’ve got to be me.” He’s famous for sexy yet relatable love songs that are at once thoroughly modern and yet steeped in the sounds of classic soul. Though fans know and love Tank for smash hits like “Maybe I Deserve” and “Please Don’t Go,” they may be surprised to learn that he is also behind such chart-toppers as Rubben Studdard’s “Change Me” and Omarion’s “O.” What’s more, Tank served as an associate member of the hit-making production team, The Underdogs, with further credits including the smash soundtrack to the 2006 musical film adaptation of Dreamgirls (in which he also made a cameo). Since releasing his previous album Sex, Love, & Pain in 2007, Tank took a moment to step out of the spotlight, but not necessarily out of the studio. He formed the Los Angeles-based production company Song Dynasty, and began shaping the sound of modern R&B with songs for a diverse roster of artists including Keyshia Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown, and Keri Hilson. Though he has enjoyed crafting hits for these artists, Tank is ready to step into the spotlight yet again, and returns with an incredibly personal collection. “I put a lot of my personal business into my music because people relate to it. I sing based upon the things that I’ve been through. I don’t just sing about the pain, I sing about getting through it. Whether I’m singing about sex, relationships, or the occasional party, the songs are still about classic R&B themes.”

Will School Choice Create Better Schools or Disable The Public School System?
Friday, 01 June 2012 19:22Will School Choice Create Better Schools or Disable the Public School System?
School choice advocates believe having the option to send children to charter schools, private schools or better performing public schools should be the right of every parent and will provide for competition in education where schools will have to perform better to retain students. The opposition to school choice argues it can violate the separation of Church & State by providing federal funds for private faith based education. Many view school choice as a tool to destroy the Public School System particularly in poorer district where students will be limited because of the available tax dollars and the inability to travel to better performing schools.
Tonight the Live in the Vocal Booth team ask you to weigh in on school choice. Do you think school choice will hurt the public school system or create a climate of competition where all schools will have to raise student performance and offer and education that parents and children want or is school choice undermining an already disabled educational system by taking needed funds away. Also does money provided per pupil make a difference in a child’s education? Join us for what is sure to be a major debate “Live in the Vocal Booth”
Special Guest: Qadree El-Amin
If ever someone had the Midas touch in business and music, it would have to be internationally recognized entertainment executive Qadree El-Amin. Best known for his skillful and successful navigation of the careers of GRAMMY Award-winning artists Boyz II Men, El-Amin seems to not only turn everything within his grasp into pure gold, but over the years, he has had a knack for attracting successful artists who want to take their careers to even greater heights.
Born and raised in Little Brick Newark, New Jersey, El-Amin has a reputation as a savvy artist manager and a crafty negotiator. Thanks to his ingenuity and assertiveness, Boyz II Men holds the distinction of being one of only a handful of artists who climbed to the number one position on the charts a remarkable 50 times. Their hit single, “One Sweet Day,” with Mariah Carey, spent a record-breaking 16 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.
Earlier this year, El-Amin’s hard work was memorialized when the group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Said El-Amin of the occasion, “It was a surreal moment; to see those guys, for all of us to be together again...witnessing a historic moment for Boyz II Men.” While he is largely recognized for his success with Boyz II Men, the El-Amin stamp extends far beyond the popular 90’s boy band. Through his Southpaw Entertainment Company, he has also served as manager to global superstars Michael Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Janet Jackson, Teddy Riley & Blackstreet, Deborah Cox and Lou Bega, among many others.
Over the years, El-Amin has worked closely and formed valuable alliances with a veritable who’s who of music’s elite, including noted record label presidents Clive Davis, L.A. Reid, Jimmy Iovine and Tommy Mottola. Never one to shy away from diversification, El-Amin has also dabbled in the film world, having played a major role in groundbreaking movie soundtracks for big screen favorites such as “Jason’s Lyric,” “Boomerang,” “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” “Khazam, “Soul Food,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back, “ Prince of Egypt,” and “Hurricane.” He has also produced several notable television specials, among them “Homecoming,” a Disney production featuring Boyz II Men and “A Christmas Special,” with Vanessa Williams, Babyface, Shania Twain, Phil Collins and Rosie O’Donnell. Clearly, El-Amin has passion for his work but there’s more to him than what the entertainment world sees. As the father of four -- three sons and one daughter -- El-Amin keeps his hands busy guiding the growth and development of his own family. Additionally, his two clothing lines, Southpaw and Heavy Hittaz, continue to thrive and grow.
Currently, he is hard at work on his biography, Qadree El-Amin: AMAN, which is due for a Fall 2012 release, as well as various other domestic and international business ventures, including a burgeoning deal with legendary boxing promoter Don King, with the Don King Flight Card Mobile App. But despite all of his endeavors, this generous, socially-conscious role model prides himself on his philanthropy and makes every effort to feed his desire to give back to the community. He has travelled worldwide on charitable and humanitarian missions, something which is very close to El-Amin’s heart. An active philanthropist, he has benefitted organizations such as the American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and back in his home town, the Newark Boy’s Club.
After more than four decades in the music industry, Qadree El-Amin shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, if you ask him, he’ll tell you that he’s just beginning to make his mark. Says El-Amin, “God has told me that the things I’ve done in the past will pale in comparison to the things that I will do in the future.”

My Baby Daddy......
Friday, 02 March 2012 18:53My Baby Daddy....It's time to clear the air of just what this means. Is it derogatory, a term used for humor, or maybe even for endearment? No matter how you slice it the Baby Daddy always seems to get the left over, corner piece of cake that's all icing. The question is.... should he? Are today's society's father's all horrible, dead beats that have no passion to build healthy relationships with their children or are they completely misguided and misunderstood? Tonight from 11pm-1am chime in with the ladies of OWWHH as they discuss "Ya Baby Daddy...." Only on www.bks1radio.com

Live In Vocal Booth Artist Review: Eric Benet - The One| Tonight's Topic: Is Blood Thicker Than Water?|Special Guest: Ronald Alston of My Father Knows Best
Sunday, 24 June 2012 13:03Tonight on the Live In The Vocal Booth Show we bring you Eric Benet latest release The One. Followed at 11 pm est with another hot topic: Is Blood Thicker Than Water? Is this still true these days, Are your family members there for you more than your friends? How has your back and by your side when the times are the toughest? Let us know tonight on the Live In The Vocal Booth Show!
Artist Review: Eric Benet
R&B Crooner, songwriter and actor Eric Benét has successfully released five albums and is releasing his sixth album entitled The One on June 5th, 2012. Very appropriately named, Benét’s new album The One marks a moment of positive transition in his life and lyrically speaks to the many new beginnings developing in his career and family. The One will also be the first album released on Benét’s newly formed record label Jordan House Records, which he created in partnership with EMI.
“Real Love” (available on iTunes) is the first single off Benét’s new album The One and was the #1 added song to Urban AC when shipped to radio in October 2011 and is currently #5 on the Urban AC chart and climbing. This new single is a taste of only one-half of what to expect on Benét’s new album, which he describes as a “very contemporary approach to old-school songwriting integrity” with Benet’s signature mid-70s soul groove, but modernized with a bit of funk, hip-hop swagger and feel. On the new album, there are a variety of instruments from strings to horns plus featured artists, a confirmed duet with his first daughter India and even a lullaby at the end of the album dedicated to his new baby girl Lucia Bella.
Eric Benét was also nominated for a 2012 Grammy Award for “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for his single “Sometimes I Cry”. CeeLo Green’s “Fool For You” feat Melanie Fiona won the category. Additionally, Benét was nominated for a 2011 Soul Train Award for “Best Male R&B/Soul Artist” and also performed during the award show’s tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire, which aired November 27th on BET.
In addition to a new album, single & record label, Eric Benét also has a new marriage and baby girl. Eric married Manuela Testolini on July 31st, 2011 in Newport Beach, CA and the newlyweds had their first baby together on December 20th, 2011, naming her Lucia Bella and weighing 6 lbs 5 oz. Previously, Eric was married to actress Halle Berry from 2001 – 2005 and has one daughter named India from a prior relationship with his longtime girlfriend Tami Marie Stauff, who tragically died in a car accident leaving Eric as a single father to their daughter at age 1. India is now 21 years old, attending USC and very musically gifted. Testolini also familiar with being in a Hollywood marriage was married to Prince prior to Benét.

Live In The Vocal Booth Artist Review: Lenny Williams - Still In The Game| Tonight's Topic: The Plight Of The Parent
Sunday, 19 August 2012 17:42Tonight at 10 pm est the LIVB team brings you the legendary Lenny Williams latest release Still In The Game. Join our interactive review process where your opinion counts. Followed at 11 pm est by the nights discussion of parenting in these trying times.
Artist Review: Lenny Williams
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Lenny moved to Oakland at a very young age. Learning to play the trumpet in elementary school fueled his interest in music. Lenny's skills as a vocalist were first nurtured by singing in gospel choirs and groups around the Bay Area. He was in good company working alongside up-and-coming artist Sly Stone, Andre Crouch, Billy Preston and members of the Hawkins family, Edwin, Walter and Tremaine.
After winning several local talent contests, Williams signed his first record deal with Fantasy records. He cut two singles for the label including "Lisa's Gone", now regarded as an R & B classic among British soul music lovers, and "Feelin Blue", written by John Fogerty of Credence Clearwater Revival. Lenny then spent a brief spell with Atlantic Records before deciding to put his solo career on hold in 1972, when he joined the emerging funk band Tower of Power. A string of hits ensued, including " So Very Hard To Go', and "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle Of The Stream)", written by Lenny and Johnny "Guitar" Watson. During his two years with the group, Lenny participated in three milestone albums, the gold LP Tower Of Power, Back To Oakland, and Urban Renewal, while touring non-stop throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
At the end of 1975 Lenny returned to his solo projects. Initially signing with Motown in 1972, he later moved to ABC Records in 1977 (which was then purchased by MCA Records in 1979). Over the next four years. Lenny scored ten charted hits, including "Shoo Doo FuFu Ooh", 'Choosing You", "You Got ME Running", "Love Hurt Me Love Healed Me", and "Midnight Girl". Lenny recorded four more albums from 1977 to 1980, Choosing You, his first gold LP, Spark Of Love, Love Current, and Let's Do It Today. These albums established a solid and loyal following for Lenny, and the impact of his music can still be felt, particularly the mega-hit "Cause I Love You", from Spark Of Love. This song crosses generational boundaries, and has frequently been used on "old school" and "slow jam" compilations throughout the years.
After leaving MCA, Lenny recorded for independent labels, Rockshire and Knobhill. In 1986 Lenny was invited to sing vocals on "Don't Make ME Wait For Love" a track from superstar sax man Kenny G's multimillion selling album Duo Tones. When released as a single in 1987, the song became a top 20 pop and R & B hit.
Over the past few years, Lenny has continued his solo career, touring the US, Europe and South Africa In 2004 and 2005 Lenny Williams and Kanye West were honored recipients of the BMI song writer’s award for the song "Over Night Celebrity" recorded by rapper Twista. He has recently shared stages with Aretha Franklin, The Whispers, Rick James, Boney James, Bobby Womack, Ohio Players, Al Green, Usher, K-Ci and JoJo, Alicia Keyes, Anthony Hamilton and Frankie Beverly and Maze. Lenny has also expanded his multi-dimensional career to include acting, starring in several stages plays "Love On Lay Away" starring Deborah Cox, actor Mel Jackson and Martha Wash. He also appeared in "What Men Don't Tell" starring Kenny Latimore, Shante Moore and Dottie Peoples the hit stage play "When A Woman's Fed Up". As an icon of the past and the present, Lenny Williams continues to expand his musical prowess and flex his newly found acting skills. He is sure to continue wowing his fans in the United States and beyond for decades to come.

Supporting Today's Youth
Friday, 17 August 2012 16:50Today we face many challenges within the Urban Community, and honestly it's becoming worse with each generation. It’s hard to imagine that many in the Urban community have no self-preservation nor respect for their communities or themselves. There are so many students in the public school systems that face challenges everyday. Although, it's unfair to put the blame on them entirely many of them simply lack the ambition to educate themselves, and do better than the generation before. The city of Newark is a prime example of the kind of community that simply never recovered from its past, and instead has become worse. Is the community to blame? Partially for its lack of enthusiasm to actively participate in the rehabilitation of the city, and the growth of the young people.
Many feel that city officials and educators have become complacent in their duty to take responsibility for the needs of its people to make a noticeable difference. Now don't get me wrong, the mayor of Newark, Corey Booker has made some changes in efforts to make Newark look better and feel better, but if the people are unchanged due to lack of support in their lifestyle then the cycle simply repeats itself; and all that was made beautiful becomes run down. Efforts like the Boys and Girls Club have faded away along with the celebrities from the cities who seemed to have successfully escaped the harsh realities and never looked back. Besides Newark native Shaq who made attempts in the past to revisit and help the city there are many others who simply haven't tried.
Mothers and Fathers are getting younger each year, and with that generation after generation become accepting of their children and their children's repetitive lifestyle. It's hard to think that many young girls grow up to become mothers before graduating high school or before completing their first year of college. The lack of discipline, structure, and attention within the household lead young men and women to find themselves through their music, and other media outlets that influence their mental state and makes it easier for their friends with whom they relate, and the struggles outside their household to ultimately becomes the lifestyle they know and live. These young adults are lost and many of them being raised by family members due to their (young) parents that may have left, lost their way to drugs, or the streets. Many of these kids lack respect for the individuals raising them using the excuse that they aren't their parents in order to manipulate their situation and look to who they feel is family or in their best interest, which is usually their friends.
Gang Violence has been around for decades and at one point was extremely destructive to the youth in the community, and is still very real today. Many young people within the minority communities use their struggles as an excuse for why they became apart of a gang or resort to gang violence. Other gang members say its because it runs in their family, and they had no other choice but to affiliate themselves or join. Gangs have changed many people’s lives with the loss of innocent people, family members, and other gang members that have left children behind without a mother or father to teach them things necessary to become better. Gangs have influenced many young people that may have had the right family foundation, but didn't want to be an outcast and looked for acceptance, or that were pressured into the lifestyle based on where they lived, but mostly teens who had no idea about the lifestyle and gang culture were fascinated with the language, gang signs, being feared, and the idea of belonging. Many teens and young adults have lost their lives and people they love to Gang Violence. Gangs within these urban and minority communities have resulted in many of our black and Latino men and women ending up behind bars, and even worse killing off many of the promising youth we could have today.
Many cities struggles to tend the needs of its fast growing population do to the lack of support within the community, and the lack of response from organizations to support these issues. These people face growing concerns for their children, teens, and young adults within the community who face harsh realities everyday. It's hard for the elders living in cities like Newark to think of their community as it is today being that it flourished years before the 1967 Riots, which brought the poverty and violence our youth are accustomed to today. Yet, how could we ever let it get to the point it is today? If everyone in the community did their part to actively participate in the rehabilitation of their communities and its people there is there any doubt that slowly, but surely in the years to come their would be a change. Instead city officials make decisions to make a difference without a solution to their madness. Tearing down "projects" and section 8 housing without a place to house those individuals who have no family to turn to or lack the funding to move within the designated time period, thus leaving them to roam the streets or become destructive to neighboring communities.
Many city officials, educators, and parents within these cities have given up on the youth, and the advancement of the community due to the difficulties, challenges, and lack of funds provided to make a noticeable change. Many of these individuals see the young people in these communities as a threat to their society, and therefore give minimal attention, or turn away. Yet, rather than take individual responsibility for their needs, advancement, and growth these “role models”, forget that by not making the youth a priority they're only contributing to more problems. To make a conscious change is to help change the lifestyle of these young people in hopes of bringing up future generations that won't pose a threat, is to support those individuals in need suffering from poverty and drugs, and to clean the streets of gangs, guns, and dealers distributing poison within the communities. The ladies of "Only Women Wear High Heels" have a very passionate topic at hand and we plan on attacking it head!
