FLY KLUB
THE MOVEMENT
Nestled in the heart of New Jersey, three cousins who aspire to be MC’s along with two business minds reckon to become a force in Hip Hop. Straight out of the bowels of Plainfield, New Jersey, Jahaad “Swagga” Perkins; Rashaan “Fly Rah” O’Neal; Michael “Niteshine” Woodall; Cameron “Cam” Smith; and Louis “Lou” Neblett are determined to turn their street dreams into a reality. Born and raised within the city limits of Plainfield, Swagga; Fly Rah; and Niteshine fell in love with Hip Hop as soon as their ears tuned into beats and later the rhymes. The three cousins then decided to stick together—realizing that there is strength in numbers. Teaming up to form a group was a no brainer for them.
Where did Fly Klub come from? “The term Fly Klub came from an older cousin who was doing their own thing. “We are all fly dudes and that’s how we are recognized. Anything positive is looked at as Fly. We all come together as a team—thus the term Klub”, states Fly Rah. Group member, Jahaad “Swagga” Perkins is very lyrical, deep, and passionate. “I love dark music”, states the twenty year old. When asked how he decided to pursue music as a career, he stated, “Every one used to tell me I was talented. We used to battle rap in all types of ciphers at places such as basketball tournaments and cookouts. I was twelve when I recorded my first rap with DJ Cheese. He was down with the Heavy Hitters at the time. DJ Cheese’s mix tape was his debut feature”. His Father, a former Rap Artist, inspired him to start rhyming. Swagga’s name was derived from the ladies who love the way he seems to carry himself.
At the top of 2009, Swagga dropped his first mix tape. At the young age of fourteen, his debut came with the release of HOLY WAR. The next mix tape after that was called, WELCOME TO HOOZVILLE in late 2009. Both solo mix tapes did extremely well locally. During the late winter/early spring of 2012, Swagga will drop his solo mix tape entitled, UNITED STATES OF HOOZVILLE. Just two years ago, Rashaan O’Neal “Fly Rah” decided to take his hobby of rhyming seriously. At the age of twenty three, Fly Rah is now starting his third career as one of the most respected MC’s to come out of New Jersey. “My Mentor, Alain Sajous encouraged me to pursue my hobby while he happened to catch me playing one of the songs I had recently recorded. From there the rest is history”, states Fly Rah who is the group’s visionary and owner of one of Plainfield’s most prestigious Barber Shops. Turning his cutting customers into party goers, Fly Rah then turned them again into Fly Klub Followers.
When asked about his style of rap, Fly Rah states, “I look at myself as a MC. I just try to stay true to what I’m feeling. I rap about my life experiences and the things I’m observing around me. I don’t like to be called a Rapper though. Rappers are more like people who don’t care too much about the art of music. They put words together just to match. MC’s think about the concept from the beginning to end of a song. MC’s make beautiful music”.
At the age of 14, Niteshine decided to become a Singer/Rapper. “I had stolen a boom box/recorder and started recording myself. I loved how I sounded and it was over after that. From there, I started making my own tapes by myself”. Before deciding to do mainstream music, Niteshine got into Gospel Rap. It was his only outlet for hip hop since his family was very spiritual. It was while making a lane for his love of Hip Hop within the Gospel sector that made his family pay more attention to his talent.
Describe your style of rap? “I’m a real flashy, soulful, emotional person. I know my soulfulness comes from the church. I have a lot of emotions because I’ve been through a lot. I talk real slick. I’m also a singer. I love R&B”, states Niteshine.
At the young age of twenty-one, CAM is slated to be the energy behind the movement. And though his is not a Rapper, he is a central part of the movement that keeps things moving in a progressive state. “My Role within the click is a Business Man. I am the Support Factor. I pick up the loose ends. If you mess up, I’m gonna catch it and help fix it”.
What made you become a part of the movement? “Everyone is their own boss. Everyone has their own positive energy. I’m all about the lifestyle of working hard, playing hard, and looking good”, smiles CAM.
As the brains behind the movement, LOU is a twenty-three year old Graduate from the University of Delaware with a BA of Science and Organizational Leadership with a minor in Legal Studies. “I am the President of Fly Klub. We all started off as friends. I started pitching them for marketing ideas/titles for mix tapes and they just brought me on. As the President, I help my Artists with their rhymes. I am kinda like an overseer/A&R. I come up with the Track Listings and all of the organizational skills surrounding our projects”, states Lou.
“Fly Klub is a movement. Either way, we are coming through, so get ready. We are motivated. We are a team and what we want is to take our music to the next level and obviously go above and beyond our environment. We came from an Urban Environment”, states Lou.
The group collectively states their musical influences as Jay-Z, TuPac, Biggie, Fab, DipSet, and more. Over the past two years, the group has opened up for Wacka Flocka, Vado, Plies, and more.

The group’s third mix tape, STREET TEAM TAKEOVER was released in 2010 “We sold over 4,000 mix tapes in two weeks. That’s when I realized the group’s potential. We took off and running in the musical direction from there”, recalls Fly Rah. Their follow up, EAGLE EYE was dropped in the summer of 2011.
At the top of 2012, the group dropped their most recent mix tape entitled, DARK OF THE MOON. How do you feel about the mix tape? “I love it. It’s very versatile. We have so many different styles and swag. We got everything. This mix tape is hard”, states Fly Rah. “This current mix tape is the group’s third mix tape. This is an emotional mix tape. The chemistry between all of us was magical. When you listen to the other two mix tapes, you can hear the growth within the group”, states Lou.
As a group, Fly Klub has had the opportunity to open up for Artists such as Cassidy; French Montana; Joe Budden; Tsu Surs; and Noreaga (Hot 97 Showcase) to name a few.
