Friday, 13 May 2011 15:19A frail man sits in chains inside a dank, cold prison cell. He has escaped death before but now realizes that his execution is drawing near.
“I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come,” the man –the Apostle Paul - says in the Bible's 2 Timothy. “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
Live In The Vocal Booth| Being Judgemental - A State of Superior Airs or Self Hate? Artist Review| Marvin Sapp - I Win| Special Guest J. Kingdom
Sunday, 29 April 2012 11:29Artist Review: Marvin Sapp
Marvin Sapp was introduced to the gospel community by Fred Hammond as a six year member of the vocal group Commissioned. "I am a preacher - called by God - who happens to sing," is the way he defines his ministry - which was given its official blessing upon his receiving of the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Aenon Bible College and the Doctor of Ministry Degree from Friends International Christian University. Sapp’s previous releases as a solo artist are the self-titled Marvin Sapp (his solo debut for Word Records – 1996); Grace & Mercy: Live (1997); Nothing Else Matters (1999); I Believe (his 2002 Verity debut); Diary of a Psalmist (2003); Be Exalted (2005) and Thirsty (2007).
When he isn’t spreading the word of God through over 200 preaching and speaking engagements a year, Sapp ministers at The Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, where he is senior pastor. By 2012, he hopes to have built a 1,500 seat sanctuary connecting to “FLC.” His ultimate goal: to encourage Believers to elevate their level of worship and praise.

Tonight’s Topic: Being Judgmental- A State of Superior Airs or A State of Self-hate?
Have you ever encountered a person that can just point out everything you do wrong or are struggling with? Often times this person could be a friend, family member or a coworker. This individual may have a critical spirit or a genuine desire to help you improve your short comings. Whatever the reason good or bad how do you feel when they approach you? Are you able to receive the criticism? Do you see their short comings and complexly reject the whole encounter as hypocrisy. Could it be the very thing the person is trying to correct in you is the thing they despise in themselves?
Tonight the ‘Live in the Vocal Booth Team” will discusses being Judgmental and how it can effects all involved..
Special Guest: J. Kingdom (aka Pastor Michael J.T. Fisher)
J. Kingdom became the Pastor of the Greater Zion Church Family at the young age of 26! Over the years, he has become known throughout the community and abroad for his ability to reach and reform troubled youth and young adults. Mothers, fathers and the many Grandparents’s who have been left to care for their teen grand children often call upon him to help re-direct their troubled youth. Fisher has taken the once small Church in Compton from approximately 400 members to more than 4500! That’s huge in COMPTON!
The Greater Zion Church Family is located in Compton, CA and is literally nestled in between two rivalry gang territories. Fisher has experienced great success in changing/saving the lives of many of them by spending time with them, counseling, listening and providing a platform for them to express themselves through the arts. Fisher believes that there are so many young talented people who just need a platform to express their frustrations. They just want someone to hear and understand their plight and their struggles in hopes to finding a solution. And that is when Pastor Fisher does his best work, offering them the keys to a better life and a divinely intended destiny! He helps them find the “Champion” within themselves. (hence, the album title “Champion”).
In 2010, Fisher lead the Voices of Destiny, a 50+ voice choir to a highly publicized sweeping victory in the national competition of Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound Contest. People were AMAZED to find out that not only was this a group of talented young people but many of its members were reformed gang members, drug dealers, drug users, delinquent’s and high school drop outs. Many had spent time in juvenile hall or had been arrested at some point in their young lives. The win opened up doors for them that they could have never imagined and they are still riding that wave of success to date.
Some of the shows they have been featured on include: BET Celebration of Gospel, the Official Super Bowl Gospel Celebration, Pan African Film Festival, NBA All Star Gospel Brunch Children’s Mending Hearts w/Ben Affleck, DIVAS Simply Singing w/Sheryl Lee Ralph, the Today’s Show, NBC Nightly News, CNN, KTLA Black History Special, KTLA Morning News, Jet Magazine, EURweb, The Examiner.com and more.
The choir used the winnings from How Sweet the Sound to complete the first youth center in South Compton, CA and they remain extremely active in the community helping to rescue other youth’s and young adults from their toxic environments. They offer tutoring, counseling, STD testing and a place to belong with a large family that cares about every area of their lives!

The Dark Side To Shacking Up!
Friday, 25 May 2012 14:06The Dark Side To Shacking Up
What Happens When Moving In leads to you Moving On. There are so many reasons why people move in together. Some get the urge out of love, others for support, and many because they don't want to be alone, but with making life changing decisions like these there are likely to be some repercussions that can cause the other person to look for someone new.
Today's relationships have become less traditional and more casual some people are settling without demanding to be on the lease, and the others aren't making it a priority. There are thousands of women out there that get strung along on an emotional roller coaster of "love" only to find out they were sucked into playing housekeeper. For other women the role may be in reverse and play the con artists gaming men into supporting them "so to speak", but what happens to those women…OR MEN when their significant other gets tired of the free ride and says "IM DONE! "YOU GOT TO GO" what then?…Living with the opposite sex has its perks, but lets not forget everything that glitters isn't gold, and most importantly nothing lasts forever, or does it?
Regardless, we all know what happens when "Shacking Up" goes all too well and everyone lives "happily ever after", but what happens when you’re not so lucky and get caught out there, are too naive to make the right decisions.

Artist Review: Brandy
Brandy is the daughter of church pastor and Gospel singer Willie Ray Norwood Sr. and his wife, Sonja Norwood. She has a younger brother, William Raymond Norwood Jr., a singer-actor who performs under the stage name Ray J. Brandy started singing in church as a very young girl, and when she was 4, her family packed up and moved to the Los Angeles area to jump start Brandy and Ray's careers as performers. When Brandy was 11, she began to get work as a backup singer. She won a recording contract of her own in 1993 after performing at an Atlantic Records party.
In 1994, when she was 15, her debut album, simply titled Brandy, was released. It eventually went on to sell more than four million copies, thanks partially to the hit singles "Baby" and "I Wanna Be Down." In 1996, she became the star of the UPN network sitcom Moesha, with Brandy playing the title character. Then in 1998, she returned to music and released her sophomore album, Never Say Never, which was even more popular than her first album. Never Say Never sold more than five million copies and is best known for the hit "The Boy is Mine," a duet with the R&B singer Monica.

Light Skinned vs Dark Skinned!| Special Guest: Singer/Entertainer Alex Young
Friday, 22 February 2013 00:16Tonight on the O.nly W.omen W.ear H.igh H.eels show the ladies discuss the divide between light skinned and dark skinned people. The battle has raged for many years and never seems to lose steam or fade away. Join the ladies to help shed some light on this age old problem facing society. In studio tonight we have the amazingly talented singer/entertainer Alex Young.
Topic: Light Skinned vs Dark Skinned
As much as we try to avoid it skin tone and racism of the past still plays a major part among the mainstream of today's society.
Party promoters offer discounts based on the color of your skin. Employers tend to hire certain skin tones regardless of qualifications. Mixed races may have an advantage as society places them above whites and higher than blacks. Also, Media may tend to promote certain shades simply because it looks good on camera or in videos.
Stereotypes such as: "I only date light skinned people because they are prettier". Or, "I only date dark skinned people because they are more loyal" only adds to further color separation and negative division among society.
Some people immediately do not like you the moment they walk through the door. If you are dark skinned they think you are evil or have a bad attitude. If you are light skinned some people tend to associate you as being stuck up.
Is it true that black people are the only race that constantly separated themselves by skin color or by words of separation such as sexy chocolate or sexy vanilla?
Join Bks1radio.com and the ladies of OWWHH Friday at 11:00 pm as we go deep on this topic.
Special Guest: Singer Alex Young
Pop-phenomena Alex Young started out as a regular on Sesame Street, and then shocked the music scene with the release of her debut album “Amazing.”
Musical Director on Lady Gaga’s world tour, Kern Brantley had this to say about the pop sensation. “As a musical director, I have been fortunate to work with some of the top female artists in the world such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, Monica, and Faith Evans just to name a few. Upon meeting and working with Alex Young, all I can say is here we go again! Alex is the next generation of modern music.”
Alex has proven that she is a true entertainer. Her powerful presence exploded onstage with her opening for Cee Lo Green at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she unveiled her all new 2012 club show. Alex was featured as an opening act on July 26th at the WBLS Summer Stage show in New York City as part of her summer tour. She is also currently working on her next album, scheduled for release early 2013. "I’m really excited about the new direction I'm pushing for my album. A funky electro-pop sound that's gonna make you wanna jump up and do that dance!"
Alex's love of music and strong work ethic, coupled with A-list production teams and choreography is a proven formula for success. In addition to her new music, she is also focusing her time on her new fashion line, “A Young Rose”, which she recently launched as a participating e-tailer at Fashion’s Night Out during New York Fashion Week 2012.This created a great “buzz” as the blogs were calling her one of the top ten best dressed at the tents.
Today, Alex Young fills a whole new lane in the world of music entertainment and stands poised to explode on the global music scene.
