Tonight's Cd Review: Melanie Fiona's new release "The MF Life" | Tonight's Topic: Facing Foreclosure - The Facts You Need To Know!

Tonight's Cd Review: Melanie Fiona's new release "The MF Life" | Tonight's Topic: Facing Foreclosure - The Facts You Need To Know!

This Edition of LIVE In The Vocal Booth Show we rate and review along with YOU the listener Melanie Fiona's new release "The MF Life"

Here is our rating system:
5 Stars: It's blazing hot – on fire
4 Stars: It's a hot song – pump it up
3 Stars: It's alright-good song
2 Stars: Thanks for the album cut-what's next
1 Stars: I won't tell nobody about that if you don't…lets keep that a secret

Melanie Fiona | The MF Life

Melanie Fiona crossed many bridges to arrive at The MF Life. Conceptual bridges. Spiritual bridges. Actual bridges. Stadium-thumpin' bridges. Hard-lovin' emotional bridges. The MF Life, the Grammy-nominated soulstress’s second album for SRC/Title 9/Universal Motown, evinces the charmed life of an immensely gifted vocalist in forward motion, hurtling up the road, the radio dial, and the charts to a unique place where myriad listeners can soothe their souls and hear the beat of their own hearts.

With the release of The Bridge, Melanie Fiona emerged as one of 2009’s finest new breakout stars, appearing everywhere from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to Live with Regis and Kelly, The Wendy Williams Show, and Last Call with Carson Daly. The album’s breakthrough ballad, “It Kills Me,” topped Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for nine weeks and earned Fiona her first Grammy nomination in 2010 for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance. Popular favorites such as “Give It to Me Right” and “Ay Yo” demonstrated Fiona’s unique ability to mix classic R&B/soul influences with a street-smart attitude and hip-hop swagger, resulting in an entirely fresh sound all her own, which she has developed into an electrifying live show. In fact, in 2010, Melanie Fiona was the only artist to be invited to perform on BET’s Rising Icons program for the second year in a row, and she has toured with Kanye West and Alicia Keys, in addition to co-headlining the 2009 Heineken Red Star Soul Tour and the 2011 BET Music Matters II Tour.

The maturity Melanie Fiona displays on The MF Life is underscored by her remarkable versatility and cosmopolitan panache. The album showcases a stunning mix of vibrant new sounds from a host of A-list R&B producers and songwriters, each partaking of the originality that has made Fiona a sought-after collaborator by everyone from Cee-Lo Green (“Fool For You”) and John Legend & The Roots (“Wake Up! Everybody”) to reggae superstar Stephen Marley (“No Cigarette Smoking (In My Room)”) and U.K. rapper Tinchy Stryder (“Let It Rain”). “The MF Life is definitely less retro-sounding than my first album,” says Fiona, who credits her parents, Guyanese émigrés to Canada, with giving her a solid foundation in the time-honored classics of Sam Cooke and Stevie Wonder, among other greats. The transformative impulse is one Fiona relishes. “Making the leap from Canada,” she explains, “I was recognized for two things: Being a powerful vocalist and an emotional storyteller. It’s clear to me that with those traits in place, the sky’s the limit. I think if listeners feel that they can believe what you’re singing, they’ll stick with you no matter what you try.”
Clearly, The MF Life points the way forward for a boldly captivating new voice with an auspicious future.

Special Guest: Tenin Baba Ndanani

Tenin Baba Ndanani - born in Harlem, NY (to a gospel-singing mother and Nigerian father) and raised in Plainfield, NJ - is a rising star of her generation!

With a powerful voice, talent for producing inspiring music, fierce "do it yourself" business savvy and undeniable gift for connecting with people, Tenin boldly delivers messages of hope and empowerment as a dynamic multi-generational communicator.

Tenin's music and magnetic personality have been featured on FOX, TLC, Oxygen, NBC Universal, Amazon, Itunes, The Bitter End, PNC Arts Center and Live at Best Buy.

"Love it!" are the two words fans are using to describe new music from the inspirational R&B/Pop singer and songwriter. Tenin secluded herself in a NYC studio for three days with platinum-award winning Anthony “Rocky” Gallo to record 12 songs for her debut album. Written, arranged and performed by Tenin, the debut album shines with edgy girl power ballads and fun dance hits! With a whole lot of heart and a distinct hip hop swag, Tenin serves up positive messages of self-confidence and faith to substance-starved music lovers around the world.

Showcasing a master blend of R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Gospel and Neo-Soul, the debut album is available everywhere now and provides a delightfully refreshing listening experience. Of its success, Tenin says "I am truly grateful to all the fans who support me. This album is a dream come true and I'm excited about the sound and message of it. I don’t keep a diary or journal. I write music to entertain and encourage us all."

Now since officially launching her recording career 24 months ago with the self-produced EP (including breakout hits “I Remember” and “More & More”), Tenin has performed nationwide and  parlayed her acting and vocal talents into television appearances on FOX , TLC and Oxygen networks.

Tenin has also graced the stages of PNC Arts Center, Best Buy, the Izod Center and NYC's historic Bitter End. For an artist with only a family owned and operated production company as support, such accomplishments speak to the keen business-savvy, unbridled ambition and pure entrepreneurial spirit of the team.

Tenin Baba Ndanani is one of the hottest up and coming stars!

Monday Night Mix Show Special Guest: Lynn Lockamy

Monday, 01 April 2013 16:07

Special Guest: Lynn Lockamy

Lynn Lockamy - a mainstay on the very competitive NY music scene is an artist to be reckoned with, having worked with Aaron Hall, Mary J. Blige, CeCe Winans, and Whitney Houston. Her recent release "Torture" is currently gaining buzz on the dance scene and Lynn is working on her R&B solo project. She grew up with gospel music in the church and rhythm and blues in her living room, eventually learning that music was an experience... a spiritual journey. Song has a soul!

As a child, Lynn was already singing for notables such as former NY Mayor Ed Koch, and Jesse Jackson. In her teen years she was a member of the Grammy award winning gospel ensemble, Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir. She got her first break as a solo recording artist in her college years, when two up and coming producers asked her to lend her vocal talents to their dance music tracks, "Love So Strong" and "Hanging On".

Shortly after Lynn found herself on a 6-month gospel tour through Europe with Queen Esther Marrow and the Harlem Gospel Singers. During that time she started penning her own R& B songs and auditioning for Broadway. She was actually offered the part of Joanne in the hit musical "Rent" twice. Family misfortune didn't allow her to take the opportunity. Sneaking her demo to a limo driver, Prince and Matthew Knowles both got to hear the talent that is Lynn Lockamy and noted her as a songwriter worthy of hire. In 2002 she released "Fire" by Kerry Chandlar.

Khaled was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is of Palestinian descent and lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida. In his albums, Khaled usually provides "shoutouts" that assert his representation of "the ghetto" and urges people to listen, Khaled's passion for hip hop music began at the age of 14 but he did not intend to be a rapper, instead he opted for a career as a producer in hip hop music stating, I became interested in rap music in my early teens but I didnt wanna be a rapper cuz I didnt have that kind of ethic, however I loved making beats and the first demo I made, I was like damn! I fell in love with making sounds and beats and from then on I worked very hard to get somewhere with my music.
