Live In The Vocal Booth Artist Review: Alicia Keys - Girl on Fire|Topic: It Takes 2 To Tango| Special Guests: Cast Of Independent Film No Surrender: Ciarah Hayes, Kashanie Lagrotta, Takiyah Diamond, and Samantha Braham
Saturday, 08 December 2012 15:54Artist Review: Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys’ artistic light is so bright it could illuminate a pitch-black room. A true musical prodigy whose multi-dimensional gifts emerged at age five, the beautiful Alicia will soon take modern R&B soul to a whole new level at the tender age of nineteen.
Born aware of her old soul yet living in New York’s inner city amidst the dominance of Biggie and Jay Z, Alicia’s natural talents blossomed into a rare mix of hip-hop flavor and insightful, wise-beyond-her-years songwriting. Coupling this with the singer’s spine-tingling vocal power, positively stirring live performances and expertise as a classically trained pianist, Alicia Keys could be this generation’s Roberta Flack.
Highly sought-after by record labels that held good, old-fashioned bidding wars in her honor, Alicia signed to Arista Records in 1998. There, in the spirit of a genius like D’Angelo or Prince, she continued the process of writing, producing and recording the debut she’d begun penning at age 14.
In late 1999, Alicia followed Clive Davis to his new J Records where she continues to chart her arrival to the music world. Creations now rising out of the studio show signs of both a critical and commercial monster - a deep, melodic, soulful gem of an album that showcases Alicia in all her universal glory. Though most of the album- including the luminous "Fallin'" and the moving "Troubles" - was written and produced by Alicia Keys, the artist collaborates with Jermaine Dupri on "Girlfriend" and with Isaac Hayes on "Rock Wit U" from the Shaft soundtrack. Her debut album, Songs in A Minor, is set for release on J Records in late June.
Born and raised in Manhattan, the stunning, bi-racial Alicia Keys recognizes a number of influences including her ultra-supportive mother who told her "You can quit anything else but you can never give up on your piano lessons." Alicia also sites a teacher at the Professional Performance Arts School in Manhattan who, while she was majoring in Choir, gave her valuable instruction on her voice. "This teacher spent so much time with me, she became the closest thing to vocal training I received," Alicia recalls.

Ciarah Hayes

Kashanie Lagrotta
This is Kashanie's first future film. She hopes the beginning of many more to come. Kashanie was born in Brooklyn NY. However she was raised in Panama City, Panama. Since she can remember she has been in love with the performing arts. She expressed her love by taking part of any and all plays, talent show and dance show cases in school. At home she didn't let the acting bug die, she weirded-out her family by dressing up in different outfits and costumes and playing out different characters. After graduating from high school she could not have made her way back to New York any faster to focus on acting.
She is a recent graduate of the The New School University. Although she is an avid music listener (if you shuffle through her IPod you will find many genres of music as well as music from many countries around the world) and she loves to dance, she doesn't consider herself a singer (the exception being in the intimate privacy of her own apartment). She is probably the only one out of the cast without afore mentioned talent and therefore feels very fortunate to have been cast for the part of "Simone" and to be surrounded by many multi-talented actors. She looks forward to the premiere of "No Surrender" and she asks that all have who come have an open mind and heart when viewing the film.
Takiyah Diamond
Something about that “Shinning Diamond” that has all eyes on her. Her love for theater & music contributes to her captivating reality-check approach leaving audiences on the edge. Takiyah was born in Newark NJ and grew up singing in church. It's no wonder she'd fit right in her latest Role as " The preachers wife" in the film "NO SURRENDER by Jameel Hayes. She was well know amongst her peers as "Most likely to succeed" & "Most Gifted".
The singer/songwriter/actress has shared her talents in plays such as I know Im Somebody by Sheba Jordon, Mama I wanna sing, Greece & More. She is recently know for playing in films such as "You Already Know" by Hykine Johnson, Brick City Boys by Tony James, Notorious and others. Takiyah has performed long side many main stream artist such as Mary J Blige, Jennifer Hudson, even hip hop pioneer Lil Kim. So if you ask anyone who’s “Shinning” in the Garden State, Takiyah T. K. Diamond is surly planting the seeds to her "Rise"!.
Samantha Braham
Samantha Braham is a British/Jamaican entrepreneur, radio personality, and fashion designer. Samantha previously worked for Sirius/XM and local NJ radio stations. Samantha discovered her passion for radio when she was 13 years old and embarked her career on Seton Hall University’s radio station 89.5FM WSOU.
Following high school Samantha attended and successfully graduated from The Institute of Audio Research, an audio engineering program. Samantha joined Sirius/XM Shade 45 in 2007 and launched the financial empowerment segment, Get Money in 50 Seconds.
