Artist Review: Eric Benet
R&B Crooner, songwriter and actor Eric Benét has successfully released five albums and is releasing his sixth album entitled The One on June 5th, 2012. Very appropriately named, Benét’s new album The One marks a moment of positive transition in his life and lyrically speaks to the many new beginnings developing in his career and family. The One will also be the first album released on Benét’s newly formed record label Jordan House Records, which he created in partnership with EMI.
“Real Love” (available on iTunes) is the first single off Benét’s new album The One and was the #1 added song to Urban AC when shipped to radio in October 2011 and is currently #5 on the Urban AC chart and climbing. This new single is a taste of only one-half of what to expect on Benét’s new album, which he describes as a “very contemporary approach to old-school songwriting integrity” with Benet’s signature mid-70s soul groove, but modernized with a bit of funk, hip-hop swagger and feel. On the new album, there are a variety of instruments from strings to horns plus featured artists, a confirmed duet with his first daughter India and even a lullaby at the end of the album dedicated to his new baby girl Lucia Bella.
Eric Benét was also nominated for a 2012 Grammy Award for “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for his single “Sometimes I Cry”. CeeLo Green’s “Fool For You” feat Melanie Fiona won the category. Additionally, Benét was nominated for a 2011 Soul Train Award for “Best Male R&B/Soul Artist” and also performed during the award show’s tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire, which aired November 27th on BET.
In addition to a new album, single & record label, Eric Benét also has a new marriage and baby girl. Eric married Manuela Testolini on July 31st, 2011 in Newport Beach, CA and the newlyweds had their first baby together on December 20th, 2011, naming her Lucia Bella and weighing 6 lbs 5 oz. Previously, Eric was married to actress Halle Berry from 2001 – 2005 and has one daughter named India from a prior relationship with his longtime girlfriend Tami Marie Stauff, who tragically died in a car accident leaving Eric as a single father to their daughter at age 1. India is now 21 years old, attending USC and very musically gifted. Testolini also familiar with being in a Hollywood marriage was married to Prince prior to Benét.
It's been said that friends come and go, but family is forever. How true is that statement for you? How many good friends do you have more of a bond with then your actual blood relatives? When you've been at your worst and really need assistance, is it family or friends that have been there for you the most? Should you always choose your family over your friends no matter what? Let discuss this right now here on Live In The Vocal Booth.

I have felt hopelessness only 3 times in my life. The first time when I witnessed a family member, who raised me in my adolescence years, battle colon cancer. In excruciating pain, this once gallant, strong, independent individual began to slowly wither away. A man, who was always strong, for the first time in his life, began to speak openly about his pain. I felt helpless. A strong and vibrant 200lb independent man became a 90lb weak and frail dependent person, ultimately losing his battle with cancer.
Two years after losing my Uncle to the horrible fate that cancer renders, I learned that now my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. After chemotherapy and a host of different prescriptions, he died at home. Once again, I experienced the feelings of hopelessness.
With nowhere to turn and feeling overwhelmed, I turned to the only person that I would now call my earthly father, Reverend Dr. Michael Lee Graves. He taught me by exuding the strength in his character and the good counsel he willingly shared with me. His mentorship made me alive again. After 15 years under his covering and anointing, I gave him my usual Monday morning call. He indicated to me that he was diagnosed with colon cancer. I paused at the other end of the phone, and I had no idea what to say. I knew the security of the relationship, the fatherhood, the mentorship, the brotherhood, would soon come to an end, as my Uncle and father lives did.
Five years later after Dr. Graves passed, I stop searching for another earthly father. I began a journey to heal fathers across the country. So, after feeling I began to study the science of healing. During his declining health, I made a promise to my mentor, Dr. Graves, to finish seminary school, which I received a Doctorate of Theology. As my study increased, the depression of being absent from my father caused my weight to increase. My stomach began to hang over my belt. I went from a 32” waist to a 48” waist.
Depressed and not ready to deal with the pain of losing the father I adored, I did not attend his funeral. Really began to sink in. I began calling my mentor expecting him to answer, but the answering machine would play his recorded voice message. I found comfort in hearing his recorded voice. One day I call and the recorded message was changed with his wife’s voice. At that moment reality set in and my painful journey led me to discover my divine purpose. I am a Minister with the heart of a Doctor with a diving purpose to heal the minds, bodies and souls of GOD’s people!

This Week on the OWWHH show we have a special guest joining us on the panel for the TOPIC OF “Frenemy” The bravura lively anchor IFUEKO and the lovely ladies of Only Women Wear High Heels will be tackling this topic this week? What are your opinions? What is A Frenemy? Are some of your friend’s frienemies? Is there a thing as a friend in the industry? What puts a friend in the frenemy zone? Are those friendships salvageable?
Many believe a Frenemyis a word that is frequently recycled to talk about a business associate that one preserves a friendly relationship with, but who is actually an opponent. Inside of business scenery, a frenemy may be a colleague who has a yearning to have your job by discrediting you, while giving a friendly front at the same time. At the identical time, a person can become a frenemy to keep tabs on you or someone who he or she thinks is out to get them. By building a setting where there is easy contact to the other person, it is likely to watch their movements closely, and perhaps neutralize a destructive situation.
The foundation of a frenemy can be create for multiple reason s love, lust, power, greed, envy or any other underlying motivation that generates a condition where the two people like each other and at the identical time can’t stand each other.

Special Guest: Miguel Perdomo
Hailing from Paterson, NJ. via Washington Heights, is a man with the swagger that many would love to have. Miguel Perdomo entered the modeling world by accident a few years ago, "people always asked me are you a model? Or and are you interested in modeling, and I would be nah, I am just a regular kat that is into music and hanging out. Until one day, I was offered what at the moment seemed to be an ok opportunity, so I decided to give it a try," says Miguel.
That opportunity was an on-the-spot casting to be part of a worldwide campaign. "I did not understand the fashion-business lingo back then, so I was just going with the flow," he adds. That flow paid off, as he landed a worldwide Corona Beer Campaign that had his face plastered on billboards all over the world. After landing his first campaign, there was no doubt that Miguel Perdomo was ready to focus and take the modeling industry seriously.
He immediately landed the COOGI Jeans campaign for their Spring and Fall collection. It followed by the nationwide campaign of AZZURE' Denim, which allowed for Miguel to start becoming a familiar face in the pages of national publications and billboards abroad. "It was a surreal feeling when people would see me on the train and stare at the posters then stare at me and ask, is that you?," chuckles Miguel. “I am forever thankful to Azzure’ for that exposure,” adds Miguel.
Miguel Perdomo, tagged as the First Male Dominican Supermodel has also appeared in several national ads for Calvin Klein Underwear, Songs of Freedom Jeans, Touch City USA Footwear and others.
He was one of SEAN JOHN's key models for their Fall/Winter 2008 campaign and has been ever since. "Being a SEAN JOHN model is something that sometimes, I still can't believe for the simple fact that I am a SEAN JOHN Jeans fan, not to mention a Bad Boy fan, so working with them is like a dream come true", says Miguel.
He landed the Fall/winter 2008 Moet Hennessey campaign, which allowed Miguel to represent MOET Hennessey all over the world.
Miguel was also the cover-model for the Rochester Big & Tall Collection Fall/Spring ‘09 and has been modeling for them since then. When not posing in front in front of the cameras Miguel spends some of his time giving back to his community. He is an active member in his community of Patterson, NJ, by donating his time, voice and athletic skills to some of the youth at the local YMCA.
Miguel also partakes in the relief efforts for the Dominican Tornado Relief, in which he collects canned goods, clothing and anything that he can to send to the Dominican Republic for those affected by the disaster. Miguel has graced the cover and pages of BLEU Magazine, Hip Hop Weekly Magazine, XXS Magazine, FREE Magazine, Bride & Groom Magazine, UNeQ Magazine, GIANT Magazine and HONEY Magazine, just to name a few. Not bad for someone who did not really want to model!!! For more information about MIGUEL PERDOMO or to schedule and interview, please contact
